Patients are often hesitant to see a Psychiatrist. Psychiatrists are Medical doctors who spend more time with patients, examining their Mental Health needs.
During a consultation, patients may be asked to complete rating scales to help quantify symptoms. This information will then be used to decide on a treatment plan that best suits the patient's needs.
Psychiatric Clinic Admissions
Dr. Schrönen works with Vredekloof Clinic in Brackenfell.
If the need for clinic admission arises, Dr. Schrönen will arrange with the clinic for the patient to be admitted.
Upon admission, referrals to a psychologist, social worker, etc., will be organised.
If needed, Ketamine treatment can be arranged for patients who have a history of treatment-resistant depression.
Medical Examination and Blood Tests
Not all mental health illnesses are caused by psychological problems. To establish that the patient is not struggling with any physical illnesses that cause mental illness symptoms, blood samples might have to be drawn. In some cases, an MRI scan of the brain might be ordered.
If there are any unusual or abnormal findings, the results will be discussed with the patient in a follow-up appointment.
Medical Aid Claims & PMB Applications
Private and Medical Aid patients are welcome.
Dr Schronen charges Medical Aid rates.
We will assist with PMB applications. Most patients with depression qualify for PMB sessions.
